Woman Describes Frightening Encounter On Strand Road

A local woman has shared an alarming account of being followed while walking home along Strand Road in Coleraine yesterday afternoon.

In a detailed social media post, Kheva Cole described how an unsettling incident left her afraid to walk alone again.

According to the post, the incident unfolded around 4pm when Kheva visited the Spar on Castlerock Road for a few essential purchases. On her return journey along Strand Road—near the steps that lead up to the heights—she noticed a man lingering by the steps. As she proceeded on her way, she observed that the man was fixated on her movements.

“I knew something wasn’t right,” she wrote, describing how the man appeared to mirror her every move deliberately. When she attempted to put distance between them by crossing the road, he did likewise, following her closely at each turn.

Growing increasingly alarmed, Kheva approached another passer-by and asked if he could accompany her. The man, described in the post as “a literal angel on earth,” stayed with her until help arrived.

Kheva later met up with her aunt, whose prompt arrival provided a welcome sense of relief. “I have never felt as scared in all my life as I did today,” she stated, adding that the incident had left her deeply unsettled and fearful of walking alone in the future.

Police have been made aware of the incident and are currently investigating the matter. In a statement to Causeway Coast Community, a PSNI spokesperson said,

"Police in Coleraine received a report yesterday, Sunday 9th February, in relation to a man acting suspiciously in the Strand Road area.

"Enquiries are being made in relation to this report to ascertain the circumstances.

"Police would like to hear from anyone who possibly witnessed anything suspicious in the area between 4 and 5pm yesterday, to contact them on 101 and quote reference number 1455 09/02/25. You can also report online at https://www.psni.police.uk/report."
