Holiday rentals in Portrush are commanding eye-catching prices ahead of The Open golf championship this summer, with some properties listed for nearly £3,000 per night.

The tournament—one of golf’s four prestigious majors and the only one played outside the United States—returns to Royal Portrush from 13 to 20 July, having last been held there in 2019.

The excitement surrounding Northern Ireland’s major sporting event of the year has already seen most local hotels fully booked, prompting many visitors to explore short-term holiday lettings instead.

Several private homes remain on booking platforms like Airbnb and Booking.com, although prospective guests may face a significant bill. Several rental properties are listed at over £20,000 for the week, which could set back the most enthusiastic golf fans.

One of the high-end listings on Airbnb, advertised as the “Shane Lowry Mural House,” features an exterior tribute to the 2019 champion from County Offaly and is priced at £19,558 for seven nights. Another townhouse, registered with Tourism NI and sleeping five guests, is available at a rate of £23,856 over the same period.

While alternatives exist at lower cost, a more modest apartment sleeping four still carries a price tag of over £700 per night, adding up to about £5,000 for the duration of The Open.
