No 'Call-In': Portstewart Hotel-Spa to be Processed Locally
Feb 19, 2025
A major new hotel and spa project in Portstewart has been given the green light to proceed locally after the Department for Infrastructure decided not to ‘call in’ the application for central review.
The planning application – Merrow Hotel & Spa - an ambitious development featuring a hotel, spa, conference and banqueting facilities, holiday cottages, a visitor attraction and additional amenities – was evaluated under the Planning Act (Northern Ireland) 2011 and the associated development procedure order.
In a letter addressed to Ms Denise Dickson on 18th February, Head of Planning at Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, the Department confirmed that the application does not raise issues of regional significance that would warrant intervention at a higher level.
The letter concluded - "The Minister has therefore decided that application LA01/2016/1328/F will not be ‘called in’ to the Department for determination and Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council can continue to process the application accordingly."
