Slurry Spill in Greenshields River, Ballymoney

An investigation is underway after a 'significant' slurry spill was reported in the Greenshields River in Ballymoney.

The Northern Ireland Environment Agency (NIEA) confirmed to Causeway Coast Community it received a water pollution report at 5:20 am on Monday, 3 February. A Water Quality Inspector was dispatched to the area to assess the scale of the incident and its potential environmental impact.

The Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA) has also informed Inland Fisheries as a precautionary measure.

The cause of the spill and the extent of any damage to local waterways remain under investigation.

Officials have not yet confirmed whether there has been any impact on fish stocks or surrounding habitats.
