Council Takes To Social Media To Dispute Portrush FC Youthsā€™ Claims

Portrush FC Youths have announced that their annual Summer Cup tournament will not take place this year after the club was denied use of Parker Avenue pitch on 7th June 2025.

The club stated that Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council informed them the pitch must be kept in condition for the SuperCup, which takes place at the end of July.

In a statement on social media, Portrush FC Youths described the decision as a “massive blow” to the club and the many young players and families who regularly attend the event.

In a rare move, the council publicly responded through its corporate social media account, something the organisation typically does not do.

The comment said that a meeting had taken place on Monday between council officers, a representative from Portrush FC Youths, and Alderman John McAuley. The council claimed that “a number of actions were agreed” and that work towards a solution was ongoing. It also stated that it “would question the accuracy” of the club’s statement.

Portrush FC Youths Chair Jason Quigley, who was present at the meeting, disputed the council’s response, stating that the suggestions “are not an option” for the tournament to proceed as planned at Parker Avenue.

Numerous locals have turned to social media to voice their disappointment regarding the cancellation.
