Council In Running For Five Awards
Feb 27, 2025
Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council has been named as a finalist in five categories at the upcoming Local Government Awards, council members heard at the recent Corporate Policy and Resources Committee meeting.
The council's projects have been recognised across diverse areas, including the Service Innovation and Improvement Award for Causeway Healthy Kids; the Engaging Communities Award for Bushmills Community Choices; the Collaborative Partnership Award, also for Causeway Healthy Kids; the Local Government Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion Award for the PCSP Disability Project; and the Communications Campaign of the Year Award for the Visit Causeway Coast and Glens Spring Campaign 2024.
Councillors were informed that a press release had already been developed to highlight these achievements.
DUP Alderman Sharon McKillop expressed her enthusiasm about the nominations, saying she was "delighted" to see Bushmills Community Choice recognised and volunteered to attend the awards ceremony.
Fellow party member Councillor Darryl Wilson described the nominations as a "huge credit" to the organizations and staff for "even being considered for this accolade."
Wilson suggested the council could do more to publicise these achievements: "We must be commended on the press release, but I think we could push a bit more out on this," he added. "We could be looking at more social media-friendly promotion of what we're doing and having some bite-sized information on the people involved as well."
He highlighted the importance of acknowledging staff efforts: "We're here to be scrutinised by the public and we also have to commend our staff and the work that they're doing and these organisations are doing as well. It's a great commendation to be nominated, whether we win or we don't win, and I think we should promote that much more."
The nominations reflect the council's ongoing commitment to excellence and innovation in public service across the Causeway Coast and Glens area.
